ENRICHMENT PILLAR
The third Pillar of Prevention supports high-risk children by making a safe childhood a community priority. Programs include:
The Mother Goose Program
Every week, parents of young children gather around to learn how to sing songs and read books to their young child. This oral interaction goes a long way to helping parents and children establish stronger bonds. Many of these parents were not read to as a young child, nor did they have nursery rhymes sung to them. It is a quality time for a parent and child to learn things together about how to be a parent and how to enrich a child's life.
Many also find that the Mother Goose program encourages learning in children. The songs and books help the child improve language and communications skills. It also teaches them to appreciate reading and enhances their desire to learn more.
Camp For Kids
Do you remember that wonderful feeling you experienced when you knew you had two months of vacation stretching out before you?
Not all children feel that way. The children who currently live with their families and receive supervision from the Children's Aid Society of Ottawa. Summer to these children can mean long hot days with no place to go.
Your donation to the Camp For Kids program can give a child the special gift of going to camp this summer. For some it will be their first chance to venture outside their neighbourhoods. For others, it's an exciting opportunity for exploration and growth.
This program is completely funded by the Champions for Children Foundation. Demands for the program have increased dramatically over the last few years. Please help us ensure that our children and youth can still access this confidence-building program.
