PREVENTION PILLAR
This first Pillar of Prevention helps to break the cycle of abuse and offers children who have been abused or neglected the gift of hope and the opportunity to make life-changing choices. These programs includes:
Hot Meals Program
Reaching neglected and abused children at an early age ensures a greater chance of success in changing destructive behaviour and breaking the cycle of abuse.
The Hot Meals Program is a key component of the Children's Aid Society Of Ottawa's HeadStart Nursery School, which is a weekday pre-school program that helps young children, ranging from 18 months to 5 years of age, gain the basic skills necessary to integrate smoothly into the school system.
It is proven that proper nutrition is directly related to a child's ability to succeed in school. That's why the Hot Meals program funds well balanced, "hot meals" to feed the preschoolers attending HeadStart. The hot meal provides them with sufficient nourishment that energizes them to learn new skills, develop behaviour that is conducive to making friends, and learn how to respect and co-operate with others in a manner that is free from abuse.
Funding is desperately needed to continue this important program.
